The most comprehensive mentorship program to ever be offered to new graduate dentists
At Dental One we have figured out that real mentorship needs three ingredients – a busy book of patients, experienced full-time mentors and a very keen, hungry to learn dental graduate. What we offer is what no other clinic offers – our two most experienced principal dentists artificially cut their own patient time to ensure that the new dentists have mentorship at any time they need it – they do not need to wait for someone to be free or wait until they are on break – they will be always helped.
This type of mentorship takes many forms:
Keeping our finger on the pulse of each new graduate and tailoring the mentorship to where it’s needed most.
Help with clinical dentistry if the graduate is stuck or needs guidance. Help with treatment planning or talking to patients about complex cases with the patient and graduate in the room.
Help with treatment planning or talking to patients about complex cases with the patient and graduate in the room. Help with clinical dentristy if the graduate is stuck or needs guidance. Help with making treatment time more efficient and comfortable for the patient.
Clinical assistance with harder cases such as difficult molar endo, wisdom teeth exos, fixed pros, implant placement and restoration.
Giving tricks and tips daily to make clinical dentistry easier, more predictable and of higher quality. Tips to improve communication with patients
Case presentations on different topics to build on clinical knowledge and knowledge on patient management. Learn how to manage patient complaints and learn from them. Learn to troubleshoot when things don’t go to plan. Learn about the business and administrative side of dentistry if interested.
The most comprehensive mentorship program to ever be offered to new graduate dentists
We encourage our graduate dentists to do treatment they may otherwise be scared to do by themselves, knowing that a very experienced mentor is there to help them if they get stuck or need help. We find this is the best way that a graduate dentist can learn how to do treatment well in a shorter period, as most of us are hesitant attempting treatment we have not done previously which really does hinder clinical skill development.
You are not at uni anymore, so we won’t be checking your etch before you bond, but we will be making sure that you’re constantly reviewing and evaluating the quality of your own work, and we will be showing you how to improve your skills. You will be your own clinician seeing your own patients, but we will be there ready to help if we think you need it or if you ask for it. We also hope that you take some responsibility for your own development and expect that you will put in that extra effort needed to become the best dentist you can.
Our graduate dentists will typically have a consistent full book of patients (8-15 patients depending on what procedures are being done) within 2 months of starting work, which is well below the time it may take other clinics. This is because our main clinic in Craigieburn is a well-established clinic in a growing area, so our monthly new patient numbers are very high. We also offer affordable dentistry which sets us apart from other clinics and makes us an attractive option to patients.
Our amenities at the brand new Craigiburn facility are recognised as the top in the industry. With large surgery rooms 14-20sqm, each equipt with the best of the best equipment.
We are so confident in our mentorship program that we believe we can take a new graduate dentist and make them better than most experienced dentists within a year.
Some of the treatment you will be doing within your first 12 months are:
The typical clinics who claim to offer mentorship will be the principal of a mid-sized dental clinic. They themselves will have a full book of patients, and you will be asked to see some overflow patients initially until your books become busier – often it will take many months to achieve a full book. The principal will be busy with their own patient book and the new graduate will usually be a second thought – they will be assisted when the principal is free, cases will be discussed when the principal has time, you will be on your own when the principal is away. It will be frustrating when you need help then and there with treatment planning, or you are stuck with a difficult extraction, and no one is there to assist you right then and there. You will also be less willing to try more complex work as you know there is no guarantees someone will help you when you need it.
At Dental One we are different:
No, we want our dentists to love the environment so much that they stay for the long term.
If you are the type of dentist looking for a laid back first job with little ambition to learn how to do anything outside drill and fill dentistry – this probably isn’t the job for you.
We are looking for candidates who are passionate about their career choice and want to accelerate their development and sink their teeth into treatment. We are looking for candidates who are easy going, care for people and their patients, are open to constructive criticism and are keen to learn as much as possible. If you feel this is you, then we would love to hear from you!
The mentorship never ends because learning never ends. A new graduate dentist may have different needs than a dentist with a few years’ experience, but all that means is that mentorship takes a different form.
We are a growing business and are regularly opening new clinics around Melbourne. We offer our dentists who are ready the opportunity to become principal dentists at our new or existing clinics, which comes with above market commission rates as well as the ability to buy in to one of our existing clinics or partner up and start their own.
Please send you resume and cover letter to careers@dental1.com.au and we will will reach out.
We are also happy to let potential graduates talk to our past graduates who work with us to share their experiences.
There is no catch. We believe that if we can create an excellent working environment, where a dentist is mentored, supported, constantly improving their skills, well renumerated, then they will stay with us and build our business together. A dentist like that is an asset to any practise and will be treated as such at Dental One.
Your initially hired at an above market salary rate while you are learning the basics, which moves to a commission role once some milestones in your clinical development are reached.
Initially you will be working at our flagship brand new 11 chair clinic in Craigieburn, a northern suburb in Melbourne. Once we believe that the new graduate can work more independently, they have the option of working at our four other clinics if they want to be closer to home.
Dental One is a family-owned business which established its first clinic in Craigieburn 7 years ago. We opened with the vision of offering affordable dentistry to the community but still maintaining the highest of standards in treatment quality and patient outcomes. We feel this vision has been embraced by the community and as of 2021 we have five clinics spread throughout Melbourne. Our most senior dentists and directors operate out of our Craigieburn clinic where they spend most of their time mentoring new graduates and giving them the tools they need to be excellent dentists on their own.
